YIN
Young IFA Network (YIN)
General
The Young IFA Network is growing and developing at full speed. Chaired by Dirk Suringa (USA), the YIN Committee has taken new initiatives to enhance the participation of YIN members in various IFA activities. At the Vancouver meeting of the Executive Committee in August 2009, Dirk Suringa presented a summary of all YIN activities and the plans for the future, including the plans for further strengthening the YIN communication infrastructure. We wish to thank the YIN Committee for its role in making the YIN initiative such a great success.
The use of information and communication technology
The YIN website, setting the stage for direct communication and collaboration among YIN members will be added to the new IFA website soon. The objectives are not only to foster inter-Branch communication, but also to enhance the recruiting efforts of YIN within Branches that do not have their own website. This may trigger new ways to study and advance international and comparative fiscal law and the financial and economic aspects of taxation, which is at the heart of IFA. This development builds further on the successful launch by the YIN USA of its Webinar Series (Seminars by webcast). YIN USA and YIN Canada held their first joint webinar in January 2009, attracting over 150 participants, and more such “virtual” joint meetings are planned for the future.
YIN at the Annual IFA Congress
The trend that was set during the Congresses in Amsterdam, Kyoto and Brussels and has been continued at the Vancouver 2009 Congress with a fully sponsored slate of YIN events. YIN held its traditional Meet & Greet reception for IFA Members attending their first Congress, the purpose of which is to allow new attendees to meet each other and more senior Congress attendees. In addition, the Congress Programme included a well-attended YIN Seminar on “Recent developments in tax research,” featuring the winning thesis of the Mitchell B. Carroll Prize 2009 and for the first time a moot court was held. The YIN events were capped off by a YIN Party.
YIN in the Branches
The number of Branches that have successfully launched YIN programmes is growing steadily. Initiatives to organise low-threshold scientific meetings in India, Italy, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, and the USA have proven to be successful in attracting young tax professionals to IFA. The Branches play a significant role in this undertaking, and we call upon Branches who have not yet organised YIN programmes to become active as well. A growing Young IFA Network is essential for IFA’s future!
