Young IFA Network (YIN)
General
The Young IFA Network (YIN) was officially launched at the 2006 Amsterdam Congress and is growing and developing at full speed. The purpose of YIN is to attract more IFA members in the early stages of their career, providing a forum for developing international tax contacts, exchanging ideas on international tax matters, and adding new perspectives to IFA’s programs at the Branch level and worldwide.
How to join YIN
IFA members are encouraged to get involved in YIN activities at the branch and worldwide level through participation at the annual Congress. You can apply to join the YIN network here: request to become YIN member
YIN at the Annual IFA Congress
The trend that was set during the Congresses in Amsterdam, Kyoto, Brussels, Vancouver and Rome will continue in Paris for the 2011 Congress with a fully sponsored slate of YIN events. Planned events include a networking reception at the beginning of the Congress, a YIN Seminar, and a YIN Party. These events have been well attended in the past, and provide a unique opportunity for young IFA members from around the world to get together in an informal setting. The YIN Seminar features a presentation by the winning thesis of the Mitchell B. Carroll Prize, and a moot court on a topic international tax issue. While these YIN events are targeted toward IFA members 40 and under, all IFA members are welcome to attend.
YIN in the Branches
The number of Branches that have successfully launched YIN programmes is growing steadily. Initiatives to organise low-threshold scientific meetings in many countries have proven to be successful in attracting young tax professionals to IFA. Initiatives comprise presentations on tax topics of interest, conferences, seminars or discussion groups, sometimes under cooperation of two or more YIN Branches. Often these events are followed by social networking events. Particularly in large countries, webcasts or “webinar” programs (seminars by webcast) involving a seminar presented over the internet have helped to alleviate geographic dispersion attracting a great number of participants. Other YIN branches have focused on arranging special YIN get-togethers in conjunction with regular IFA events, often hosted by tax law firms and accounting firms. To keep the target community informed, some YIN Branches have successfully established newsletters to inform the community about recent and future YIN activities. YIN members are also strongly encouraged to become involved in the writing of Branch Reports for IFA Cahiers or to become actively involved in the annual IFA conferences, for instance, by participating in one of the panels.
The Branches play a significant role in the YIN undertaking, and we call upon Branches who have not yet organised YIN programmes to become active as well. A growing Young IFA Network is essential for IFA’s future!
