YIN Asia Pacific, webinar "Tax Controversies at the Intersection of the Three Mega Trends"

2 June 2026

16:00 (Hong Kong time, GMT+8)

Introduction: Lucas Ting, Chair of the Young IFA Network, Hong Kong Branch

Speakers:

Julien Chaisse, City University of Hong Kong

Błażej Kuźniacki, Singapore Management University.

Mega trends are strategic forces—often perceived as threats—that shape our present and future in ways that are difficult to reverse, much like the slow but inexorable movement of a glacier. Properly recognizing these mega trends can lend greater clarity to an otherwise uncertain future.

During the IFA YIN Asia-Pacific webinar "Tax Controversies at the Intersection of Three Mega Trends", Professor Julien Chaisse and Professor Błażej Kuźniacki will examine the relationship between taxation and three such trends, using each as an entry point into a more precise legal question concerning the boundaries of tax sovereignty, the reach of investment arbitration, and the legality of unilateral responses to contested tax measures:

(1) legal nihilism (connected with fracturing world);

(2) energy transition (connected with climate change); and

(3) digitalisation of global economy (connected with technological disruption).
