VIII International Congress on Tax Law of Rio de Janeiro – ABDF 2025

IFA Brazil – ABDF 2025 Brings Together National and International Experts at the VIII International Congress on Tax Law of Rio de Janeiro.

From August 26 to 28, 2025, IFA Brazil – ABDF hosted the VIII International Congress on Tax Law of Rio de Janeiro – ABDF 2025 at the Sheraton Rio Hotel & Resort. Recognized as one of the leading tax law events in Brazil, the congress gathered over 2,000 participants, including legal professionals, academics, and tax experts, and was held in a hybrid format with live streaming.

The opening ceremony featured representatives from prominent institutions dedicated to the study of tax law and included a tribute to Prof. Paulo de Barros Carvalho, Vice President of IFA Brazil – ABDF and a leading authority in Brazilian Tax Law.

Over three days, the congress included 33 panels and plenary sessions, bringing together national and international experts to discuss the challenges and opportunities of tax reform, administrative and judicial litigation, the roles of the STF and STJ, and the impacts of the IBS and CBS. Emerging topics such as sustainability, innovation, digital transformation, and fiscal geopolitics were also highlighted in the program.

Special initiatives included the WIN Plenary, emphasising women’s contributions to tax reform discussions, and the ABDF Young Panel, which offered innovative perspectives on the future of judicial tax litigation and new sanctions and presumptions in tax law.

The congress concluded with a tribute to Professor Edvaldo Brito, recognising his outstanding career and contributions to legal scholarship, followed by a networking and celebration event at Faro Beach Club, bringing together speakers and participants in a collaborative and festive environment.

ABDF 2025 reaffirmed the role of IFA Brazil – ABDF as a centre of excellence for tax law discussion, connecting multiple generations of experts and strengthening institutional dialogue on the future of taxation in Brazil.
